August Newsletter
Hola desde Puerto Vallarta, MX! I just returned a few days ago after a month of travel in Europe.
Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter that highlights my recently published articles, upcoming calls for sources, and a peek into my travels. If you want to support my work, tips are appreciated via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the paid version of this newsletter for $9.99 a month. You can also buy me a tea as a token of appreciation here.
If you’d like to work with me, I offer consultations where I workshop pitches and allow writers to pick my brain about the industry: LolaAnnMendez.com/Consultation
In August, while traveling full-time, I filed six articles, writing about 5,750 words. Of the articles I wrote in August, five were assignments (editors contacted me to write the story). The other article was commissioned (editors bought the article ideas I sent them). I sent 23 pitches this month—two are being considered, six were rejected, and 15 are pending a response.
My portfolio can be viewed at any time at LolaAnnMendez.com. In August, I had five articles published and I made my debut in Time Out. I have upcoming pieces in new-to-me publications including AARP, The Today Show, Ensemble Vacation Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Women’s Health, Experience Life, The Compass, and Sliced.

I always post my calls for sources on Twitter.com/LolaAnnaMendez. Newsletter subscribers are privy to the first look at my current work. PR folks (and individuals when relevant) are welcome to send pitches for the stories on which I’m currently working.
So far this month I'm looking for PR pitches for the below stories:
- What to do in Montevideo, Uruguay. Please pitch ASAP (Before EOD Monday, Sept. 4)
I spent the month of August in Europe, mostly for work, visiting Sweden, Serbia, Slovenia, San Marino, Italy, and Malta, with two lunch pit stops in Croatia. I’m tired, y’all. But it’s a special day as today marks seven years since I left the USA for good and started traveling full-time. I can’t believe this journey has continued for so long. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d reach 77 countries or become a successful journalist.
I’m home in Mexico for 3.5 weeks before I head to NYC for a week for a vegan festival and hopefully a visit to Salem. I’m heading somewhere special in October for my 33rd birthday, stay tuned for next month’s newsletter to find out where. Follow my adventures on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
