February Newsletter
Hola desde the Chilean side of Patagonia! I just returned to South America this morning after an 18-day voyage to Antarctica. I’ve officially visited all seven continents!
Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter that highlights my recently published articles, upcoming calls for sources, and a peek into my travels. If you want to support my work, tips are appreciated via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the paid version of this newsletter for $9.99 a month.
If you’d like to work with me, I offer consultations where I workshop pitches and allow writers to pick my brain about the industry: LolaAnnMendez.com/Consultation
I worked 32.5 hours in February and filed 14 articles (about 8,500 words). Two were assignments (as in editors contacted me to write the story). The other 12 articles were commissioned pitches (as in editors bought the article ideas I sent them). I sent 38 pitches this month—eight were commissioned, one is being considered, 15 were rejected, and 14 are pending a response.
My portfolio can be viewed any time at LolaAnnMendez.com. In February, I had seven articles published. Each image is clickable should you want to read the story. This month I debuted in i newspaper, TravelAge West, and The Spruce Eats. I have upcoming pieces in new-to-me publications including Wine Enthusiast, Experience Life, Scott’s Cheap Flights, Broccoli, Bon Appetit, and Wix.
I always post my calls for sources on Twitter.com/LolaAnnaMendez. Newsletter subscribers get a first look at what I’m working on. PR folks and individual people (when relevant) are welcome to send pitches for the stories for which I’m currently working.
So far for March, I'm looking for sources for the titles below.

Puerto Vallarta insider travel guide
I spent February in Puerto Vallarta, Chile, and Antarctica. I have a week left here in Chile where I’ll be visiting Torres del Paine for the first time before heading back to Mexico for a few press trips within the country and to spend time with my sister who is visiting!
In April I have flights (but nothing planned) to visit Egypt and Turkey which will be my 68th and 69th countries to visit. Follow my adventures on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
