June Newsletter
Hola desde Puerto Vallarta! I’m back in my homebase for the rest of July.
Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter that highlights my recently published articles, upcoming calls for sources, and a peek into my travels. If you want to support my work, tips are appreciated via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the paid version of this newsletter for $9.99 a month.
If you’d like to work with me, I offer consultations where I workshop pitches and allow writers to pick my brain about the industry: LolaAnnMendez.com/Consultation
I was traveling the entire month of June. I filed 12 articles, writing about 6,000 words. Some of the articles were only 250 words long—which is harder for me to write than 1,000 words.
Of the articles, eight were assignments (editors contacted me to write the story). The other four articles were commissioned pitches (editors bought the article ideas I sent them). I sent 37 pitches this month—eight were commissioned (I retracted two because of low rates), four are being considered, 12 were rejected, and 13 are pending a response.
My portfolio can be viewed any time at LolaAnnMendez.com. In June, I had 14 articles published. I made my debut in the Washington Post, Scott’s Cheap Flights, and LATV. I have upcoming pieces in new-to-me publications including The Today Show, Experience Life, The Compass, and Sliced.

I always post my calls for sources on Twitter.com/LolaAnnaMendez. Newsletter subscribers get a first look at what I’m working on. PR folks (and individuals when relevant) are welcome to send pitches for the stories for which I’m currently working.
So far for July, I'm looking for PR pitches for the below stories:
- I need travel agent sources for a piece on the best LGBTQ+ romance resorts and destinations around the globe. Please pitch ASAP.
In June, I visited Europe for the first time since 2016 (well, except for Turkey in April) and went to several new-to-me countries including Iceland, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland. I’ve now visited 73 countries! I traveled on a group tour for the first time with Trafalgar and enjoyed it much more than I anticipated.
I returned to Uruguay to visit my family and friends and then ended the month in NYC for the PROUD Experiences queer travel conference followed by a long weekend trip upstate NY. I’ll be back in Europe for all of August, stay tuned for more!
