June Newsletter
Hello from Boston! I’ve just returned from back-to-back press trips. Now, I’m on the East Coast visiting my boyfriend’s friends before we head back home for less than a week then go together to Asia. More on my travels in the last section of the newsletter!
Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter that highlights my recently published articles, upcoming calls for sources, and a peek into my travels. If you’d like to support my work, tips are appreciated via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the paid version of this newsletter for $9.99 a month. If you’d like, buy me a tea here as a token of appreciation.
If you’d like to work with me, I offer consultations where I workshop pitches and allow writers to pick my brain about the industry: LolaAnnMendez.com/Consultation
I was fully offline for a week on a press trip this month and didn’t pitch much to avoid deadlines during that time. In June, I wrote six articles. Three were pitches editors commissioned and three were assignments. I wrote about 6,000 words.
I sent 12 pitches this month—none were commissioned, one is being considered, seven were rejected, and four are pending a response.
My portfolio can be viewed at any time at LolaAnnMendez.com. In June, I had 10 articles published including my debut in National Geographic, Roadtrippers, TripAdvisor, Hispanic Executive, and Vegan Society. I have upcoming pieces in new-to-me publications including Travel+Leisure India & South Asia.
I always post my calls for sources on Twitter.com/LolaAnnaMendez. Newsletter subscribers are privy to the first look at my current work. PR folks (and individuals, when relevant) are welcome to send pitches for the stories on which I’m currently working.
For PR folks looking to connect with writers, I recommend the PressHook online platform.
I’m currently writing a hi-lo guide to restaurants in Playa del Carmen.
I had the chance to sail again with Hurtigruten this month and joined one of the expedition cruises in the Galapagos with my mother in tow! We had an incredible experience witnessing the islands’ fascinating flora and fauna. This last week I’ve been in Oregon on another press trip, this time with my cousin as my guest, exploring the wine country and the queer scene in Portland. I’m heading back home to Puerto Vallarta tomorrow, but only for five days! I’ll be going to LA for a few days to see family before my boyfriend and I spend six weeks in Asia between Japan, South Korea, and Japan! All new-to-me countries.
