November Newsletter
Hola desde Mexico,
Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter that highlights my recently published articles, upcoming calls for sources, and a peek into my travels. If you want to support my work, tips are appreciated via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the paid version of this newsletter for $9.99 a month. You can also buy me a tea as a token of appreciation here.
If you’d like to work with me, I offer consultations where I workshop pitches and allow writers to pick my brain about the industry: LolaAnnMendez.com/Consultation. I’m offering $50 off on consultations booked before the end of 2022 (can be for dates in 2023).
Please note I took November off for bereavement and wasn’t working besides deadlines I already committed to before my father’s death. In November, I filed two articles, writing about 1,600 words. Of the articles I wrote this month, both were pitches.
I followed up on old pitches and sent new pitches in the last week of November. I sent 17 pitches this month—none were commissioned or are being considered, seven were rejected, and 10 are pending a response. Taking time off as a freelancer is really difficult.
I had a career first this month, my article for Good Housekeeping is now a podcast episode of me reading the piece introduced by none other than Oprah herself! Listen to the incredible story of Mercedes Bristol who is raising her five grandchildren on Spotify.
I was asked to be a part of Lonely Planet’s 2023 Best in Travel. I covered the food scene in Montevideo, Uruguay and it was the first time I had to sign an NDA related to an article.
My portfolio can be viewed at any time at LolaAnnMendez.com. In November, I had four articles published (including two print stories) and I made my debut in The Compass. I have upcoming pieces in new-to-me publications including The Today Show and Jet Setter.
Here are some of my favorite pieces that were published this month. Each image is clickable so you can read the story.
I always post my calls for sources on Twitter.com/LolaAnnaMendez. Newsletter subscribers are privy to the first look at my current work. PR folks (and individuals when relevant) are welcome to send pitches for the stories on which I’m currently working.
Open to pitches about sustainability in Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile
I spent the majority of November in Uruguay with my family. I’m back in Mexico and don’t have plans to travel until mid-January but may take some trips around Mexico or Central America.
