October Newsletter
Hello from Joshua Tree, CA! Thanks for subscribing to my monthly newsletter that highlights my recently published articles, upcoming calls for sources, and a snippet into my travels. If you want to support my work, tips are appreciated via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the paid version of this newsletter for $9.99 a month.
I worked 61 hours which is the most I’ve worked in a month all year. It’s actually double the amount of time I worked in April, which was previously the month I had worked the most. I took on a new travel writing gig where I’m paid hourly and clocked 33.5 hours in October.
I filled 12 articles this month—eight were assignments and four were commissioned pitches. I’m overjoyed to have reached a point in my career where editors contact me with assignments relevant to my beats. I sent 23 pitches—one was commissioned, eight were rejected, and 14 haven't been responded to yet. Researching, pitching, interviewing, writing, editing, and business management accounted for 27.5 hours of work in October.
I offer freelance consultations where I workshop pitches and allow writers to ask me anything. The fee for the contribution will increase in 2022 so lock in the 2021 rate by booking and paying today here: LolaAnnMendez.com/Consultation
My portfolio can be viewed any time at LolaAnnMendez.com. In October, I had seven articles published. Each image is clickable should you want to read the story. This month I debuted in USA Today—my first major U.S. newspaper clip. I have upcoming pieces in new-to-me publications including the Telegraph.
I always post my calls for sources on Twitter.com/LolaAnnaMendez. Newsletter subscribers get a first look at what I’m working on. PR folks and/or individual people when relevant are welcome to go ahead and send pitches for these stories I’m working on currently.
*Must-Have Products to Deal with Fibroids
*How Travel Destinations Can be More LBGTQ+ Inclusive
I spent my 32nd birthday partaking in spiritual rituals solo and with friends including a cacao ceremony, sound bowl healing, reiki, and more in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I’m currently on the 2nd installment of a three-part trip across the U.S. starting in Anaheim with Marriott. I’m currently in Palm Springs, CA with the tourism board and am off to rural Ohio in a few days to discover wellness offerings in the destination. If I don’t end up having surgery for my fibroid towards the end of November I hope to visit some nearby towns in Mexico including Guadalajara and Tequila.
