October Newsletter
Hola desde Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! Sorry for the delay on this newsletter, I spent the last week on vacation with my Mexican gal pals enjoying the Día de Los Muertos festivities. More on my travels in the last section of the newsletter!
Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter that highlights my recently published articles, upcoming calls for sources, and a peek into my travels. If you’d like to support my work, tips are appreciated via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the paid version of this newsletter for $9.99 a month. If you’d like, buy me a tea here as a token of appreciation.
If you’d like to work with me, I offer consultations where I workshop pitches and allow writers to pick my brain about the industry: LolaAnnMendez.com/Consultation
In October, I wrote three articles—all of which were pitches commissioned by my editors. I wrote about 3,000 words.
I sent 37 pitches this month—none were commissioned, five are being considered, seven were rejected, and 25 are pending a response.
My portfolio can be viewed at any time at LolaAnnMendez.com. In October, I had nine articles published including my debut in Wanderlust, Wussy, Xtra, and Adventure.
I always post my calls for sources on Twitter.com/LolaAnnaMendez. Newsletter subscribers are privy to the first look at my current work. PR folks (and individuals, when relevant) are welcome to send pitches for the stories on which I’m currently working.
For PR folks looking to connect with writers, I recommend the PressHook online platform.
I kicked off October on a hybrid personal/press trip to see family in New Mexico and finally attend the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. I went up in a hot air balloon for the 5th time. It was the day of the solar eclipse and I flew in the air with over 500 other hot air balloons. After a few days at home, I visited Oaxaca for the first time. I spent a week in the over-stimulating for all the senses (in the best way) city with my Mexican friends to celebrate Día de Los Muertos. In a few days I’m off on a press trip returning to a Central American country where I spent two months in 2018. Any guesses where?
More about those travels in next month's newsletter.
